BRIGHT STARS OCCULTED BY THE MOON
AUSTRALIA - 2021
Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and Hobart
EXPLANATION OF THE TABLE
- Date :
- Universal Time (UT). UT is effectively equivalent to Greenwich Mean Time.
- In Eastern Australia, add 10 hours to UT to get Australian Eastern Standard Time, or 11 hours to get Australian Eastern Daylight Time.
- In Central Australia, add 9.5 hours to UT to get Australian Central Standard Time, or 10.5 hours to get Australian Central Daylight Time.
- In Western Australia, add 8 hours to UT to get Western Australian Standard Time.
-
Note that depending on which local time system you are subject to, events may occur after local midnight in the predawn of the following day.
- ZC :
- Star number in Robertson's Zodiacal Catalog.
- Mag :
- Star Magnitude.
- Ev :
- Event, either a Disappearance of the star behind the edge of the Moon, or
a Reappearance of the star from behind the lunar limb. Almost all events listed take place
at the dark limb. Disappearances occur before Full Moon when the Moon's eastern limb is dark.
Reappearances occur after Full Moon when the Moon's western limb is dark.
- % :
- Percentage of the moon illuminated; "+" indicates waxing and "-" waning. "E"
indicates that the event occurs during a lunar eclipse with the number representing the amount of
moon outside the umbra.
- City Name :
- Time of the occultation at the named locations, expressed in hours and decimal
minutes of Universal Time. Because the actual time of an event depends very much on the observer's
physical location, times given are approximate and may vary by a minute or two across a distance of
several tens of kilometres. "no event" indicates that no occultation will be visible from
that site. "Graze" indicates that there is a grazing occultation close to the site, and occultation
times will vary dramatically or may not happen at all. Green text indicates that the event occurs at an altitude less the 15
degrees. Red indicates
that the event occurs with the Sun less than 10 degrees below the horizon.
Magenta indicates that both
conditions are current.
- Note: For detailed information about interesting graze events in Australia refer
to [Grazing Lunar Occultation Predictions for Australia - 2021]
- CA :
- Cusp Angle, or angle around the moon's limb
at which the occultation occurs. This is measured from the Northern or Southern cusp
of the Moon in the direction of the unlit part of the Moon. If CA is negative this indicates that the event will
be against the sunlit part of the moon and will probably require a large telescope to be
observable.
- Notes :
- For a double or triple star, the magnitudes of the
components and the separation in seconds of arc.
- For a variable star, the magnitudes between which
the star varies.
