This prediction update has been computed by Steve Preston of Medina, Washington (state) in the United States based on astrometry from Ron Stone of the US Naval Observatory - Flagstaff Station supplemented with data from the AstDys database. The UCAC position of the target star has been used combined with proper motion details from Tycho 2.
Summary:
This updated path lies around 0.2" to the northeast of that given by Occult and around 20 seconds earlier. The new path does not make landfall at any point in darkness but passes close to the northeastern extremes of the North Island of New Zealand.
The error band would just reach the North Island in a strip running from Northland through Auckland and the Bay of Plenty area to Gisborne over the period from 7:42 to 7:43 UT.
