Goffin's path crosses the New South Wales coast around Sydney running southwest across Canberra. Further west, the path crosses northwestern Victoria and the far southeast corner of South Australia. The path given by Occult lies around 0.4" to the south with little difference in time. This path passes through Bass Strait without landfall.

This prediction update has been computed by Steve Preston of the Medina, Washington (state) in the United States based on astrometry from Ron Stone of the US Naval Observatory - Flagstaff Station supplemented with data from the AstDys database. The UCAC position of the target star has been used.
Summary:
This updated path lies around 0.4" to the south of that given by Goffin and around 1 minute later. The path now passes to the north of the North Island of New Zealand around 15:40 UT before running across the Tasman Sea and through Bass Strait (15:44 UT).
The error tolerances on this calculation are quite large and the major centres of Melbourne and Hobart (15:44 UT), and Canberra and Sydney (15:43) all lie within the range of a possible occultation.
Observers are warned that the target star is quite faint (magnitude = 11.7) and users of small telescopes may have difficulty locating the field in the bright moon conditions.

Observers must bear in mind that later astrometry, in which the target star is measured in the same field as the asteroid, may still reveal substantial changes to the predicted track and time of the event.
