These pictures were taken by Noel Munford of Palmerston North, New Zealand, during the total lunar eclipse of 17 July 2000. The images were taken through an 8-inch Celestron telescope working at f/6.3 and using Fuji 800 Press colour film. The exposures are of 20 seconds duration. The one with the lighter edge was taken just after totality began and the other at mid eclipse when the Moon was positioned at the center of the Earth's shadow.
